Flora Incognita is a speculative herbarium that envisions how plant life might evolve on exoplanets beyond our solar system. Inspired by the adaptability of terrestrial flora in extreme environments, the series imagines ecosystems where plants develop new morphologies in response to unknown forces. Created using a hybrid process of photogrammetry and 3D, the project models these fictional species with hyperreal precision. It is presented as encyclopedic plates and forms part of a broader reflection on biodiversity, climate change, and the poetic possibilities of life elsewhere. All exhibited works will be available to purchase in-store.

SPACE AGE DESIGN

Some of the images from the BrasiliaSpace Project, and Kosmic Memories series interact with iconic Space Age pieces.

It all began on the evening of October 4, 1957, with a faint radio signal from the Soviet Sputnik satellite, marking the start of a futuristic design era that shaped the culture of the 1950s and 1960s. From iconic furniture to avant-garde architecture, this book by Peter Martin offers a comprehensive insight into the bold aesthetics of the Space Age—an era where technology, art, and design came together to create a fascinating universe.

The solo show presented by the Momentum Gallery brings together two interwoven series—Flora Incognita and Space Project. Between Surrealism and scientific speculation, Flora Incognita envisions what Earth’s flora might look like if it grew on other planets. Inspired by the uniqueness of recently discovered exoplanets, this herbarium extrapolates new forms of plant life capable of adapting to extreme phenomena: supersonic winds, gravitational collapse, vapor oceans, gaseous tidal waves, metallic rain, hot ice, and endless days and nights. This dialogue between the terrestrial and the extraterrestrial resonates particularly today with the metamorphoses of the living world and its increasingly sophisticated representations.

Flora incognita
Herbier d’Astrobotanique Potentielle

DYSNOMIA – 11, rue Pastourelle16 mars- 27 avril 2024
