The Immortal Heart, a precious organ made of gold and lead topped with citrines whose weight and size are similar to a human heart, embodies our desire for immortality, in keeping with our infinite and derisory dreams. It proposes a double echo, to contemporary biomedicine which pushes the limits of life, but also to the philosopher’s stone of the alchemists, source of immortality. This promise of eternity of the Great Work (the philosopher’s stone) resonates with the hopes of eternal life carried by the post-humanist trend of thought, where the human body would become a machine body made indestructible by the evolution of science and technology. The Immortal Heart beats to the rhythm of a vital flow between the past and the future.
